A 46-year-old woman is being treated in critical but stable condition at Nicosia General Hospital after reportedly being shot on Sunday afternoon by her husband at their residence, according to police.
The Paphos Crime Investigation Department is investigating an attempted murder case involving the woman and her 57-year-old husband as the alleged perpetrator.
According to a representative from the Police Headquarters Communication Branch, at 5:40 PM on Sunday, the 46-year-old called the police, stating that her husband was going to kill her and providing her home address. Police officers from Peyia rushed to the scene, where they found a man standing in the yard holding a hunting firearm. He reportedly confessed to the officers that he had shot his wife.
A court-issued arrest warrant was executed against the 57-year-old, and he was taken into custody.
The woman was found lying on the ground with injuries to her head and body. She was initially transferred to Paphos General Hospital, where she underwent surgery before being moved to Nicosia General Hospital. Her condition is described by her attending doctors as critical but stable.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Service arrived at the scene to conduct examinations, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
