Preserving the ceasefire deal (between Israel and Hamas) is paramount for regional stability and security the President of the Republic of Cyprus wrote on X platform on Wednesday evening welcoming the Gaza ceasefire deal.

“I welcome the Gaza ceasefire deal prioritizing the release of all hostages and the flow of critical humanitarian aid”, President Christodoulides notes, adding that “this is an incredibly significant moment”.

Furthermore, President Christodoulides commends the efforts of US, Egypt and Qatar stressing that “preserving this deal is paramount for regional stability and security”.

A little earlier, President Christodoulides had been asked to comment on media reports that a ceasefire had been agreed, on the sidelines of an event at the Holy Archdiocese in Nicosia. “We are waiting for the final information. If what we have seen in the media is indeed confirmed, it is a very positive development for our region and beyond,” he said.

He added that he expects to be informed after the end of tonight’s event, reiterating that “our wish and expectation is that what we read about reaching an agreement will correspond to reality.”
