Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis is traveling to Greece today and is expected, during his meetings in Athens, to gather expertise from the Greek authorities regarding the operation of the “Panic Button” application for victims of domestic violence, in view of the upcoming launch of the corresponding application named “ELPIS” at a national level in Cyprus.
According to a press release from the relevant Ministry, Hartsiotis will have a series of meetings with the Minister of Citizen Protection, the Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, and the Secretary General for Gender Equality and Human Rights of the Hellenic Republic.
It is also noted that issues related to the effective management of gender-based violence cases against women will be discussed, as well as ways to further strengthen cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in preventing and combating gender-based violence and human rights.
The Minister’s visit to Athens is part of the actions agreed upon between the two countries, following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Minister of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus and the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family of the Hellenic Republic last October in Cyprus, the press release adds.
