ON THIS DAY: International Italian cuisine day

Date:

International Italian Cuisine Day is celebrated every year on 17 January. It was initiated by Italian culinary professionals (chefs, waiters, restaurant managers, etc.) working abroad, who are organised through the itchefs-GVCI network.

The aim of the day is to defend Italian cuisine and its products from “imitators,” to raise global awareness about authentic and high-quality Italian cuisine, and to protect consumers from restaurants falsely labelled as “Italian.”

The date, 17 January, was chosen as International Italian Cuisine Day because it is Saint Anthony’s day, one of Italy’s most beloved saints and the patron saint of, among others, butchers and charcutiers.
