Police are now investigating a murder case following the death of 85-year-old Charalambos Kounnapis, who had been hospitalized at Nicosia General Hospital since December 2025 after sustaining serious injuries during a robbery at his home.
The attack took place on December 20 in the Nicosia district, when an unknown individual broke into the elderly man’s house, assaulted him severely, and stole an amount of money.
The 85-year-old was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where doctors found that he had suffered a skull fracture, broken ribs, head lacerations, and a hematoma to the eye.
As part of the investigation, a 19-year-old suspect was arrested and remains in custody awaiting trial before the Criminal Court.
The Morphou Criminal Investigation Department continues inquiries to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
