The Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos has sentenced a 64-year-old man to 16 years in prison for rape and the sexual abuse of minor, following a full hearing of the case.
The concurrent prison sentences were imposed on Wednesday under Article 144 of the Penal Code (rape), and Articles 6(3)(7) and 6(4)(9) of Law 91(I)/2014, relating to the sexual abuse of minors.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar of the Paphos District Court, the severity of the offences, the circumstances in which they were committed, and the serious physical and psychological harm inflicted on the young victim were among the key factors considered in sentencing.
The court also acknowledged the vulnerable age of the victim at the time of the abuse and the heinous nature of the acts. However, it additionally took into account the defendant’s personal and family circumstances, including the impact of the sentence on his family, his clean criminal record, existing health problems, and his current age in relation to life expectancy.
