A total of 60 products posing potential risks to consumers’ health and safety have been listed on the EU’s Safety Gate system.
The Consumer Protection Service, Cyprus’ single point of contact for the Safety Gate system, said the products were identified in markets across EU member states and subsequently reported to the system to alert consumers.
The products have been distributed among the relevant authorities in Cyprus for market checks.
Products allocated for inspection
Of the 60 products, 16 have been assigned to the Consumer Protection Service and 17 to the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services.
A further 13 products have been assigned to the Department of Labour Inspection, eight to the Road Transport Department, two to the Health Services and two to the Department of Environment.
One product has been assigned to the Mines Service, while another falls under the Ministry of Interior’s Building Products sector.
Advice to consumers
Consumers can search the Safety Gate database directly to find information on products reported through the system and avoid using potentially dangerous items.
The Consumer Protection Service is also calling on businesses that stock or have previously placed any of the listed products on the market to notify the relevant authority immediately.
Consumers who have any of the products are advised, where appropriate, to stop using them, return them to the shop where they were purchased and notify the relevant authority.
