Police arrest alleged accomplice
Police have arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with the child abduction case in Limassol involving a 23-month-old child allegedly taken by the father from the child’s mother.
Authorities said the suspect was located in Larnaca at around 10.10pm on Wednesday and arrested under a court warrant to assist investigations into the abduction case.
He was later transferred to Limassol Police Directorate, where he remains in custody.
According to information, the 53-year-old is believed to have acted as an accomplice to the child’s father.
Father allegedly entered through illegal route
The child abduction case continues to shock the public as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
According to SigmaLive information, the father is a Turkish national believed to reside in occupied Famagusta and allegedly entered the Republic-controlled areas through an illegal route.
Police sources said an arrest warrant had been pending against him since October in connection with an abuse case. He is also reportedly linked to drug trafficking cases and was on a stop-list banning his entry.
Mother reportedly attacked before child taken
According to the complaint filed with police, the suspect travelled to the mother’s residence in Limassol district using a rental vehicle accompanied by the 53-year-old suspect.
The man allegedly attacked the woman and attempted to drown her in the swimming pool at the property before taking the 23-month-old child and fleeing the scene.
Investigators believe he later returned to occupied Famagusta, where he allegedly uploaded videos with the child on social media.
Reports said he also sent the footage directly to the mother, telling her she could travel to the occupied areas if she wished to collect the child.
In one of the videos, he allegedly states: “My lion, your father would give his life for you, my child. If anyone is brave enough to take you from me, let them come and we will see.”
The Limassol CID continues investigations into the child abduction case.
