Cyprus police recorded 550 offences during a nationwide road safety campaign targeting mobile phone use while driving and the use of other objects while behind the wheel.
The awareness and enforcement campaign was carried out across Cyprus from 24 to 30 August 2026, with road checks aimed at tackling driving without keeping both hands free.
520 drivers caught using mobile phones
Of the 550 complaints recorded during the nationwide road checks, 520 involved the use of a mobile phone while driving.
A further 30 complaints concerned drivers using another object while behind the wheel.
The campaign focused on raising awareness and enforcing road safety rules against distracted driving.
