Cyprus expects to receive 50,000 additional vaccine doses Cyprus today following a request by the Ministry of Agriculture, as authorities step up efforts to contain the outbreak.
Officials confirmed that vaccination campaigns began yesterday afternoon after an extended meeting between experts, Veterinary Services and private veterinarians, who finalised the implementation strategy.
Vaccinations begin in Aradippou
Vaccinations started at cattle units in Aradippou, with private veterinarians providing immediate support and operating with full professionalism during what authorities described as a challenging situation.
Sampling continues within the 3km and 10km surveillance zones as part of ongoing monitoring efforts.
Yesterday morning, authorities received an initial batch of 10,000 vaccine doses, boosting the national stock ahead of today’s larger delivery of vaccine doses Cyprus.
Culling and burial operations ongoing
Teams continue the culling and burial of animals in units where positive cases have been identified.
Authorities agreed burial sites for animals marked for destruction in coordination with the Environment Service, the Department of Agriculture, the Water Development Department and the Department of Lands and Surveys. Officials selected the sites based on specific environmental and safety specifications.
Increased control measures
Authorities have increased spray checkpoint controls within the infected area, adding six additional control points and bringing the total to 21.
Implementation of wheel baths at livestock units also continues, following recommendations from the Department of Agriculture to local authorities. The Department of Agriculture covers the cost of the installations and thanked local authorities for their immediate response.
Support measures for livestock farmers
The Minister held a series of consultations with agricultural organisations and representatives of affected professional sectors regarding support measures for livestock farmers in infected units.
She instructed the Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Services to prepare a compensation and support package. Authorities aim to finalise the package promptly as containment efforts continue alongside the vaccination campaign involving vaccine doses Cyprus.
