35-year-old still missing – Search resumes in Chrysochous Bay

Date:

Search efforts resumed by air on Wednesday at first light in Chrysochous Bay for the 35-year-old Polish tourist who has been missing since Easter Tuesday. The operation is being coordinated by the Republic’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC).

Searches had continued throughout the night by sea and land, but have so far yielded no results.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director Michalis Nikolaou, the tourist departed alone around 10:30 yesterday morning from the port of Latchi in a rented inflatable boat for a short excursion in the surrounding marine area.

Around 16:30, the boat was spotted adrift and unmanned in the sea near Argaka, approximately 200 metres from the shore, by members of the public.

Mr Nikolaou stated that the Police were immediately notified, along with the JRCC, which activated the national rescue plan “Nearchos” and assumed coordination of the search and rescue mission.

The operation includes two helicopters from the Police and National Guard, a vessel from the Port and Marine Police, and land-based personnel from the Paphos Police Department.
