Three children — a 13-year-old girl and two boys, aged 2 and 11 — were found dead on Monday in a home in the town of Taninges, in the Haute-Savoie region of the French Alps, just a few kilometres from the Swiss border.
A large police operation is underway to locate the children’s mother, who is reportedly suffering from depression. Around 60 police officers have been mobilised for the search, including a helicopter, according to a source from the local police force speaking to AFP.
The children were found by the father of the youngest child, who discovered them on Monday afternoon and immediately alerted authorities.
Taninges is a community of around 3,500 residents in the Giffre Valley, approximately 50 kilometres east of Geneva.
The public prosecutor of Bonneville, responsible for the region, reported that “the victims had stab wounds.”
This incident comes just one week after two children — aged one and four — were found decapitated in their home in Saint-Rose, Guadeloupe, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean. Their mother, who was found wandering in the streets, was detained and is now in psychiatric care.
