22-year-old detained as fourth suspect in Apollon FC raid

Date:

Police arrested a 22-year-old man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the violent raid on the Apollon FC last Thursday night.

The suspect was taken into custody under a court warrant to help with the ongoing investigation.

Background

Late on 27 November, a group of hooded individuals – reportedly organised AEL Limassol supporters – stormed the Apollon premises. They threw bangers and molotov cocktails, fought with fans inside, then fled while setting fire to a rubbish bin and damaging 11 parked cars (broken windscreens and windows). Another vehicle had its rear windscreen smashed with a fire extinguisher.

Three other men aged 19, 21 and 30 were arrested earlier this week.

Limassol CID (TAE) continues examinations, including evidence from a previous search (pickaxe handle, spiked broom handle, gloves and helmet).
