The shootings in Glyfada, Greece, are linked to score-settling

The shootings in Glyfada on Monday morning, which left two dead and one seriously injured, are believed to be the result of a score-settling incident, possibly involving members of the Turkish mafia, according to initial evidence gathered at the scene.

The incident

According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the incident took place shortly after 10:00 AM outside a store at the intersection of Mikras Asias and Lefkosias streets. The events unfolded when two men dressed in black entered a shop at the intersection of Lefkosias and Voriou Ipirou streets, near Karaiskaki Square, and opened fire, reportedly shooting more than 10 bullets.

The area has been cordoned off by police forces conducting investigations, while the injured person has been transported to Asklipieio Voulas Hospital.

Although the shooting started inside the shop, it quickly escalated, with gunfire continuing outside on the streets.

Arrests and evidence

ELAS (Hellenic Police) officers rushed to the scene and, after an investigation, detained two men of Kurdish origin. According to police sources, one of the detained individuals is believed to be the shooter.

Authorities reportedly found a firearm and a jacket in the area. The two men are being questioned to determine their connection to the incident.

Witness accounts: “They shot everywhere”

A local resident described the chaos:
“Just down the street is the school where my children go. They were shooting at everything. They didn’t care where the bullets landed. They were firing next to the counters. Yesterday, we saw many people patrolling the area. We informed the police, and when the DIAS motorcycle unit arrived, they dispersed. People passing through the area were very lucky. They didn’t care about anything when they were firing.”

Another witness said:
“I was at work when I suddenly heard gunshots. Jokingly, I said to my friend, ‘It’s like the Wild West out here.’ At least ten shots were fired. We went outside to see what was happening. Both dead men were covered. From what I was told, an ambulance took a third person away, seriously injured.”

This violent incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with locals expressing fear and outrage over the disregard for public safety.
