19-year-old Kristina killed in Sotira crash, peer critical

A fatal Sotira crash in the early hours of today claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman and left three others injured, authorities said.

The collision occurred at around 1.30am on Agias Theklas Avenue in Sotira, when a car driven by a 19-year-old veered off course under circumstances still under investigation and struck a concrete reservoir wall before coming to a stop.

Victim and injuries

Kristina Achilleos, 19, from Sotira, suffered fatal injuries in the crash in Sotira.

The driver and a 20-year-old front-seat passenger sustained injuries and were initially taken to Famagusta General Hospital before being transferred to Larnaca General Hospital for further examinations.

A second 19-year-old rear passenger, whose condition was described as critical, was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment.

Investigation under way

Preliminary examinations indicate that all four young occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the Sotira crash.

The driver underwent alcohol and drug tests, both of which returned negative results.

Famagusta traffic police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
