19-year-old arrested for stealing €10,000 in Nicosia office break-in

A 19-year-old man was arrested by police in connection with an ongoing investigation into a building break-in and the theft of €10,000, crimes committed yesterday afternoon in Nicosia. The case is being investigated by the Nicosia CID.

According to the evidence under investigation and the complaint filed with the police by a 50-year-old man, at around 6:00 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, a bag containing €10,000 was stolen from an office in a building in Nicosia where the complainant works. Shortly after 8:00 p.m. the same evening, the 50-year-old spotted an unfamiliar man in the Engomi area who had the stolen bag in his possession. He intercepted the suspect and contacted the police.

Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the bag in the suspect’s possession, a 19-year-old man, belonged to the complainant. Inside the bag, police found €5,100 in cash. During questioning, the suspect led the officers to other locations and handed over an additional €4,600, which appears to be part of the stolen property.

The 19-year-old was arrested and taken into custody for the investigation of charges related to building break-ins, theft, and illegal possession of property. He is also under investigation for another break-in committed in a Nicosia residence between 4 and 5 January, which he confessed to during police questioning yesterday.
