A 17-year-old girl lost her life in the early hours of Saturday when the double-cab pickup she was travelling in overturned on the Kofinou–Nicosia highway.
Aliki Nikolaou from Lympia was a passenger in the vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man. Three other teenagers (two 17-year-olds and another 22-year-old) were also on board.
Around 2:30 a.m., as the vehicle entered the motorway heading toward Nicosia, it veered off course, struck a crash barrier and rolled over.
Firefighters extricated the 17-year-old from the wreckage. She was rushed to Larnaca General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
The other three passengers were treated and discharged. The 22-year-old driver remains in hospital under observation.

Driver arrested
A preliminary alcohol breath test on the driver returned positive. When he failed to provide a proper sample for the final test, police arrested him on the spot for an indictable offence. A drug test proved negative.
Larnaca Traffic Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the fatal crash.
