An emergency warning was sent to citizens’ mobile phones through the early warning system due to heavy rainfall and an increased risk of flooding.
In the message, which was sent at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, citizens were urged to limit their movements and remain at home for their safety.
It is the first time that a 112 emergency alert has been sent nationwide across Cyprus.
“There is heavy rainfall in your area with an increased risk of flooding. Avoid unnecessary travel and remain at home for your own safety,” the warning stated.
Authorities are also urging the public to stay informed and strictly follow official instructions as the severe weather conditions continue.
